Trekking is a very thrilling experience and India is one of the best places for Trekkers. If you’re a trekker you know what I mean. The challenging routes to the top is like a metaphor for life. How we all need to go through such rocky, unstable ways to reach the top. The view from the top and the journey along is enough to fill a man’s heart. There are trekking spots all over India. In this article, I’ve mentioned some of the best places to trek and get a fill for your share of adventure. There are day-long treks as well as days-long treks listed in this article.

Best treks in North India.

Snow leopard trek – Ladakh

One of the most popular winter treks in Ladakh is the snow leopard trek. This trek takes place in the Hemis national park. The park is widely renowned for its Snow leopard. The best time to witness these majestic creatures is in the winters. You’ll behold the beauty of nature in this place. The park is widely known for its expeditions to peaks like Stok Kangri peak or Kang Yatse peak. There’s also a monastery inside the park. It’s suitable for people with prior experience in trekking. It starts from Leh and ends in the Rumbak valley.

Chandra Taal lake – Himachal Pradesh

This trek is of moderate difficulty. It’s not recommended to beginners.

The best time for trekking and camping in this area is in June. It’s situated on a high altitude of 4300 meters. Due to it’s crescent shape it’s named as Chandra taal (lake of the moon). This region, in the spring time, is completely filled with varities of wild flowers. It is nature’s magical trance. It’s turquoise blue water will leave you feeling everything but blue. It’s that gorgeous. It’s also home to mammals like Golden Eagle, red fox, Himalayan ibex and snow leopards.

Valley of flowers – Uttarakhand

The valley of flowers is a very widely known trek and rightfully so. To cross the beauty of this place is a challenge. As the name suggests it’s literally filled with flowers. It’s filled with flowers like Orchid, marigold, poppies and daisies. It adorns all different coloured flowers which is a treat for the eyes. The flowers dance along with the wind and will bring you to a blissful state when you watch them. It’s not a very easy trek. This is suitable for moderately experienced trekkers. The trek starts in Govindghat in chamoli district.

Chadar trek – Ladakh

It is one of the toughest and most adventurous treks in India. It’s advisable that only experts or moderately experienced trekkers attempt this. It’s a winter trek. The Zanskar river freezes completely in the winter. The trail is over the frozen Zanskar river. The best time to attempt this trek is in the month of January – February when the ice is most stable. It’s a one of a kind experience. You can say you’re walking on water if you go on this adventure. Trekkers camp in the caves along the banks of the river. This is completely tough and adventurous journey not meant for everyone.

Brahmagiri trek – Karnataka

This is a mountain range in the Western Ghats of the Karnataka state. This trek starts Mananthavady or Kutta from the side of Kerala. From the Karnataka side it starts from Irupu falls or Munikal caves. There are many tourist attractions like Thirunelli temple, dedicated to Lord Vishnu, and Pakshipatalam which fall on the Kerala side of the mountain range. Irupu falls or Lakshman thirtha falls on the Karnataka side of the Brahmagiri range. This mountain range is filled with lush greenery and cool climate. It’s a moderately difficult trek and beginners can also attempt to scale this range. These treks should be avoided in the monsoon.

Mullayanagiri trek – Karnataka

It is a mountain range situated in the Chandra drona range of the Western Ghats in Chikkamagaluru. It is the highest peak in Karnataka.

Its a relatively easy trek because of the existing roads and pathways. This journey is filled with views of dense woods and you can also witness the wildlife and water source which makes it that much more of refreshing travel. It’s named after a monk who used to meditate in these hills.  There’s also a temple in the caves just a little below the summit.

Makkalidurga hill fort trekKarnataka

This is a hill fort situated 10 km after Doddaballapura, on the way to Gauribidanur. Legend has it that Indian mythological sage Markandeya rishi performed his penance here. There’s also a temple inside the fort of Lord Shiva and Nandi. It’s a moderately difficult trek. The trekking trail starts 2 km after the Makalidurga railway station.

These treks are made for adventurers and daredevils to conquer. These treks vary in difficulty levels so you can choose your perfect match.
